Status of AIDS in the Philippines Today

The issue of AIDS and HIV is the last thing on my mind. However, I can’t deny the fact that the number of AIDS and HIV cases in the Philippines is escalating and it’s my moral obligation as a blogger to publish this fact.

The Department of Health (DoH) recently published the following information about the current status of AIDS and HIV in the Philippines. Let’s all practice safe sex guys.

16,964 (1984-January 2014) 1,563 AIDS Cases

448 (New Cases in January 2014) 57 AIDS Cases

Age Range – 17-73 years old, 20-29 age-group (56%) most number of cases

Males – 434 (97%), Females – 14 (3%)

National Capital Region – 224 (50%)

Western Visayas (Region 6) – 18 (4%)

Overseas Filipino Workers – 49 (11%)

Males having Sex with Males – 381 (85%)

Mode of Transmission:

Unprotected Sex – 444 (99%)

People who inject drugs – 4 (1%)

Mother to child transmission – 0 (0%)

Asymptomatic – 391 (87%)
